Hometown: Rome, GA

Educational Background: B.A. in English from UNC – Chapel Hill; J.D. from UGA School of Law

Host Site: IM Sulzbacher Center

What is your role at your host site?

I am the Patient Advocate, and my primary responsibility to help homeless patients sign up for patient assistance programs so they can receive their medications for free.

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?

I wanted to gain health care experience and exposure while making a positive and needed change in the Jacksonville community.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?

I’m hoping to learn about health care access disparities and the various overlapping health care systems. I’m also hoping to feel as though I spent my year doing something important and meaningful to real, individual people – people whose lives are a little bit better because I served.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?

I’m hoping to attend medical school (knock on wood!).

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?

Starting residency!
