What is your title and role at your host site? I am a Teen Health Center Facilitator where I lead an after school program in which teens have the opportunity to come together and learn about relevant public health issues.
Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps? I want to spend a year out of the classroom, being independent and serving in a fun and fulfilling organiztion that aligns with my interests and values. National Health Corps was perfect for that- I’m interested in pursuing a career in the medical field, but also care about the sociocultural context in which health disparities exist.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service? I’m hoping to improve certain practical skills (facilitation, organizational skills, knowledge of certain public health issues) as well as broader, long-term skills (interpersonal skills, being a supportive listener).
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service? After my AmeriCorps service, I plan to enter medical school.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years? In 5 years, I envision myself to be graduating with a medical degree!
